Constant Quality Improvement (C.Q.I.) is one of the core elements of Spyderco's philosophy as a company. And few products reflect their never ending quest for perfection more than the Native 5 family of knives. The compact, incredibly versatile Native model has been a symbol of the quality and affordability of Spyderco's USA-made products for decades. The product of years of extensive research, development, and engineering, its current fifth-generation version sets a new standard of excellence in the form and function of the lockback folding knife. Its highly refined lockback mechanism offers remarkable strength, precision, and ease of operation. On the business end, a variety of premium stainless steel blades provide low-friction edge geometry, extreme toughness, and exceptional edge retention. It also incorporates an index-finger choil that allows a forward grip for enhanced control. A four-position pocket clip offers left or right-side tip-up or tip-down carry and complements the advanced design to create completely ambidextrous carry and operation. All these advanced features were pioneered with the G10 handled Native 5, but quickly inspired lightweight versions of the design with injection molded FRN handles and premium versions with state-of-the-art CPM S110V and Maxamet blade steels. No matter which variation you choose, we are confident that the decades of product improvement that we've invested in the Native 5 will shine through. The complex Maxamet alloy in the blade of this enhanced version of the Native 5 offers tremendous edge retention and toughness. It is further showcased by its distinctive gray FRN handle. The Manix 2 Lightweight CPM S110V combines the ultra-lightweight construction of our award-winning Manix 2 Lightweight with a blade ground from premium Crucible® CPM S110V. This state-of-the-art powdered metallurgy steel contains high amounts of vanadium and niobium—alloys that give it exceptional wear resistance and higher corrosion resistance than many other stainless steels. The full-flat-ground, leaf-shaped blade offers a superior combination of strength, low-friction cutting performance, and point utility. It also features a forefinger choil and strategically placed imping (texturing) that enhance control during use and Spyder Co’s Trademark Round Hole™ for swift, ambidextrous one-handed opening. The handle of this knife is injection molded from tough fiberglass-reinforced nylon (FRN) and features Spyder Co’s distinctive Bi-Directional Texturing™ pattern to ensure a secure grip in all environmental conditions. A reversible wire clip provides convenient left or right-side tip-up carry and an oversized lanyard hole allows the easy attachment of fobs and lanyards. Linking the blade and handle is Spyder Co’s patented Ball Bearing Lock mechanism. This high-strength lock consists of a ball bearing nested within a durable textured polymer “cage.” When the blade is opened, a spring-loaded steel plunger drives the ball bearing forward to wedge between a ramp on the blade and an “anvil” in the handle’s steel insert. Drawing the caged ball bearing to the rear releases the lock and allows the blade to close smoothly while keeping your fingers safely away from the sharp edge. Smooth, strong, and easily operated, the Ball Bearing Lock is also completely ambidextrous. The Manix 2 CPM S110V Lightweight is an exceptionally advanced folding knife that combines light weight, durability, strength, and high-performance cutting capability into a single dynamic package. Specifications Blade Length: 3.37" (86 mm) Cutting Edge: 2.88" (73 mm) Overall Length: 8.03" (204 mm) Closed Length: 4.66" (118 mm) Blade Thickness: 0.125" (3.2 mm) Blade Steel: CPM S110V Stainless Steel Weight: 2.9 oz. Easily one of the most anticipated products in Spyderco's history, the Para 3 is the latest generation of their immensely popular Paramilitary family of folding knives. It traces its history all the way back to the first-generation Paramilitary model, which was introduced in 2004 and even further to that knife's inspiration: the iconic Military Model. The original design intent of the Paramilitary was to provide the same proven reliability and cutting performance of the Military but in a more compact, easy-to-carry package. The design also showcased Spyderco's patented Compression Lock—a high-strength lock mechanism housed in the spine of the handle that offered a number of significant advantages over the Military's liner lock. In keeping with Spyderco's deep commitment to Constant Quality Improvement (C.Q.I.), in 2010 the Paramilitary was redesigned to yield the Paramilitary 2. This second-generation design incorporated an improved lock detent, refined ergonomics, countersunk handle and pivot screws, and a four-position clip that supports all possible carry configurations. These enhancements quickly established the "Para 2" as one of Spyderco's most popular and in-demand models and, to many end users, the "perfect" folding knife. While it was significantly smaller than the Military Model that inspired it, for some customers it was still larger than what they could comfortably or legally carry. Based on that feedback, Spyderco went back to the drawing board once again to distil all the features, benefits, and performance of the Paramilitary 2 into a "sub-compact" package built around a three-inch blade. The result is the Para 3. Although clearly based on the Paramilitary 2, the Para 3 was not named the "Paramilitary 3" because its smaller size qualifies it as a different knife design. Similarly, the "3" in its name actually reflects its three-inch blade length rather than identifying it as a third generation of the Paramilitary design. While its pedigree is unmistakable, the Para 3 (and its model and SKU number) has its own distinct "identity" as a Spyderco product. With that said, the Para 3 does faithfully retain all the defining features of the best-selling Paramilitary 2, but in a smaller, even handier package. Its three-inch blade is precision machined from premium CPM-S45VN stainless steel and features a full-flat grind for superior edge geometry and low-friction cutting performance. Its oversized Trademark Round Hole proudly announces the knife's pedigree and is easily accessible from either side to allow swift, ambidextrous, one-handed opening. The lightweight, open-backed handle is built on a framework of stout stainless-steel liners nested within textured G10 scales. This refined construction style maximizes both structural strength and ergonomics while keeping the handle slim and pocket friendly. It's also the foundation of the knife's patented Compression Lock mechanism, which provides exceptional lock strength, yet allows easy one-handed closing without placing your fingers in the path of the blade's edge. A streamlined four-position hourglass clip and a generously sized lanyard hole round out the design, offering a choice of left or right-side tip-up or tip-down carry and allowing the easy attachment of lanyards or fobs. The Para 3 is a remarkably refined folding knife with a distinguished history. It's also a shining example of our tireless quest for perfection and our deep commitment to meeting our customers' needs. Now all the highly evolved performance features of this incredibly popular design have been distilled into a compact gentlemen's folder with a 2.47" blade. Its full-flat-ground black DLC coated CPM-S30V stainless steel blade includes a prominent index-finger choil that flows seamlessly into the contours of the textured G10 handle scales. The result is a compact, ergonomic package that still offers a full, four-fingered grip and excellent control. This version of the Lil' Native goes a step further by adding their high strength Compression Lock mechanism and a low-profile deep-pocket wire clip that is reversible for left or right-side tip-up carry. The original Native 5 Lightweight Salt featured an ultra-corrosion resistant LC200N blade and a bright yellow handle. To make it consistent with the color theme Spyderco has established with their other LC200N-bladed lightweight Salt folders, they have changed its handle color to high-visibility green. All other aspects of this high-performance knife are faithful to the original, including a full-flat-ground LC200N blade, a high-strength back lock mechanism, a linerless fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) handle with non-slip Bi-Directional Texturing, and a fully configurable four-position pocket clip. Available in both PlainEdge and Spyder Edge configurations, this lightweight tool delivers heavyweight cutting performance. In 2004, Spyderco introduced the popular byrd line of knives as a budget-friendly alternative to their premium Spyderco products. In designing them, they drew inspiration directly from their best-selling Spyderco models. For example, the Endura inspired the Cara Cara, the Delica was the basis of the Meadowlark, and the Dragonfly was the inspiration for the Robin. On rare occasions, however, the design inspiration flows the opposite direction. A case in point is the Spyderco UpTern. As its name subtly suggests, the UpTern is an upgraded version of the Tern—a byrd model first introduced in 2012. Designed by Spyderco co-founder Sal Glesser, the Tern was the first and, to date, only non-locking byrd model. It followed in the spirit of Spyderco's groundbreaking UK Penknife, which was created to comply with the restrictive knife laws enacted in the United Kingdom that prohibited the carry of one-hand-opening knives with locking blades. The UK Penknife took the genre-defining CLIPIT concept—a one-hand-opening, clip carried, lock-blade folding knife—and combined it with the legal and social friendliness of a non-locking blade. The result was the SLIPIT—a new breed of pocketknife that showcased a notched-joint mechanism that did not mechanically lock the blade, but held it open more securely than a traditional slip joint. It also offered the ease of carry of a pocket clip and the convenient one-handed opening of Spyderco's signature Trademark Round Hole. The Tern translated the SLIPIT concept to the byrd line, offering a compact, easy-to-carry, pocketknife with a full-flat-ground 8Cr13MoV stainless steel blade, peel-ply-textured G-10 scales, and a reversible deep-pocket wire clip configured for tip-up carry. Although it traded Spyderco's Trademark Round Hole for bird's Comet-Shaped Hole, it still offered swift, ambidextrous, one-handed opening. Best of all, it did all that—and continues to do it—at an extremely affordable price. Although the Tern is not byrd's most popular folder, it quickly attracted a very devoted customer following. When Spyderco dug deeper into the reasons for its popularity, they found its fans appreciated its convenient size and unmistakably classic Spyderco design lines. Reflecting on those qualities, our customers' devotion to the design, and the fact that it came from the mind of Sal Glasser, an "upgraded" version of the Tern soon made a lot of sense. The result is the Spyderco Up Tern. The UpTern faithfully maintains the same stylish lines and finely tuned synergy of convenience, cutting performance, and style as its progenitor. Even better, as a proud member of spyderco's Value Folder family, it does all that at a budget-friendly price. Although its profile remains the same, it trades the Tern's G-10 handle scales for stout, all-stainless-steel construction. Reminiscent of Spyderco's earliest classic designs, the stainless handle features riveted construction, a beautifully sanded spine, and a handsome satin finish. It also adds a sturdy back lock mechanism that locks the blade securely open during use and a fully configurable four-position hourglass clip that supports left or right-side, tip-up or tip-down carry. Like most members of our Value Folder family, the Up Tern's blade is crafted from time-tested 8Cr13MoV stainless steel. Full-flat ground for exceptional edge geometry, it proudly showcases a fully accessible Trademark Round Hole for positive, ambidextrous, one-handed opening. It also includes a 50/50 index-finger choil and thumb ramp with matching jimping (textured grooves) to allow a "choked-up" grip for enhanced dexterity and control. Available in a choice of Plainedge (this model) or partially serrated Combination Edge blade configurations, the Up Tern elevates Sal Glasser's original Tern design to a lock-blade, Round-Hole design in classic, old-school Spyderco style. Specifications Blade Length: 2.84" (72 mm) Cutting Edge: 2.28" (58 mm) Closed Length: 3.80" (97 mm) Overall Length: 6.58" (167 mm) Blade Thickness: 0.104" (2.6 mm) Blade Material: 8Cr13MoV Stainless Steel Blade Style: Drop Point Blade Grind: Full Flat Blade Finish: Satin Blade Edge: Plain Handle Material: Stainless Steel Handle Color: Silver Locking Mechanism: Lockback Pocket Clip: Tip-Up/Down, Left/Right Carry Model Number: C261P Model Name: UpTern Weight: 3.70 oz. Another addition to Spyderco's proud Ethnic Series of knives, the Watu traces its history back to an earlier Spyderco model, the Chokwe, and the traditional ethnic knife that inspired it. Like all members of the Ethnic Series, the Chokwe was created to recognize and pay tribute to an iconic cultural cutting tool, while at the same time pushing the limits of modern knife design and engineering. It faithfully captured the distinctive profile of the traditional fixed blade of the Chokwe people of Central Africa but expressed it in a folding format crafted with state-of-the-art materials and manufacturing methods. Released in 2009, the Chokwe featured the signature triangular blade shape of the African ethnic blade, rendered in premium CPM S30V stainless steel. The full-flat-ground, satin-finished blade was paired with a coffin-shaped handle constructed with a stainless-steel liner and peel-ply-textured G10 scale on one side and a solid titanium scale on the other. The titanium scale formed the foundation of the knife's sturdy Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) mechanism and provided mounting platform for the pocket clip, which offered a choice of tip-up or tip-down, right-side carry. The Chokwe's unique design translated the shape and form of the ethnic knife of the Chokwe people into a modern, practical, and extremely functional cutting tool that was ideal for everyday carry. Although it enjoyed a devoted following for a number of years, it was ultimately discontinued. The allure of this remarkable design, however, never faded. Many users of the original Spyderco Chokwe expressed an interest in a newer version that was smaller and even more pocket friendly. Spyderco enthusiasts who had missed out on the original version chimed in to strengthen the calling to resurrect and refine the design. Based on that customer demand, Spyderco founder Sal Glesser, the designer of the Chokwe, went back to the drawing board and refined the design to create the Watu. Like its predecessor, the Watu (which means "people" in Swahili) accurately reflects the distinctive profile of the traditional Chokwe ethnic knife that inspired it; however, it distills it into a more refined package that is approximately an inch shorter than the original Spyderco Chokwe. The Watu's iconic clip-point blade is crafted from CPM 20CV, a high-chromium, vanadium-enriched, particle metallurgy steel that offers an excellent balance of edge holding and corrosion resistance. Its full-flat grind and nearly straight edge give it exceptional edge geometry and point utility, while its fully accessible Trademark Round Hole allows convenient one-handed opening with either hand. The coffin-shaped handle profile and two large holes of the traditional Chokwe fixed blade allowed it to be securely lashed to a pole to fashion a makeshift spear. The Watu's handle retains these classic design features but expresses them with high-tech materials and flawless workmanship. Its full stainless-steel liners provide structural strength while allowing a lightweight, easy-to-clean, open-backed construction. They also serve as the foundation of the knife's high-strength Compression Lock mechanism, which locks the blade securely open in use and allows it to be safely closed with only one hand. The liners are capped with stunning carbon fiber/G10 laminate scales that have a subtle peel-ply texture to enhance grip security. To allow discreet, convenient carry while keeping the Watu instantly accessible for use, its handle also includes a deep-pocket wire clip that is reversible for left or right-side, tip-up carry. The Watu is a remarkably practical folding knife that proudly maintains the tradition of both its predecessor and its ethnic inspiration. It also supports a noble cause, as Spyderco donates a portion of the sales of every Watu to Keep a Child Alive, a charitable organization dedicated to providing life-saving treatment, care, and support services to HIV/AIDS-affected children and their families in Africa and the developing world. Spyderco is very proud and excited to add the Watu to their ever-evolving family of Ethic Series knives.
